Good Food

Well-balanced and variable diet contains also enough of protein.

According to nutrition recommendations protein should provide 10-20 % of the total daily energy intake. For elderly (> 65 years) a higher protein intake is recommended and it should provide 15-20 % of the daily energy intake.

Protein is required for growth, renewal of body tissues and protection of muscles during weight reduction and ageing. Especially vegetarians should pay attention to sufficient intake of protein. Dietary recommendations advise to eat less red meat and meat products, and to eat more vegetables, fruits and berries. Pulses, such as beans, peas and lentils are good sources of protein. They can be used as the single source of protein or together with animal proteins. Therefore it is meaningful to develop protein containing vegetable foods.
